Nancy Fox Loomis is a native of the Washington, DC area who spent her summers in the Belgrade Lakes region of Maine before moving to Waterville in 1981.

Although she had been drawing creatively from a very young age, her moving to Maine sparked her interest in trying out new ideas.  She first exhibited in Waterville at the Thayer Gallery, and later at the New England Music Camp. In between showings she produced many freelance projects for Waterville florists, family and friends. Recently she has sold her drawings as notecards and calendars at the Colby Craft Fair and similar venues.

After the birth of her son in 1990 she started to view her art more as a hobby than a career. She continued to experiment in various mediums, but her output was mainly for family and friends.

As her son became less dependent on her, she began to spend time in her studio again.  She now found herself more enthusiastic than ever about her art, spending hours each day creating new themes.

Nancy has had a lifelong fascination with feline caricature.  She named her first cat ‘Theobold’ after a character in a children’s book by Rachel Fields called Hitty- Her First 100 Years.  Theobold was her inspiration, companion and model for almost nineteen years. A variety of successors followed ‘Theo’, each with it’s own personality. Posed on brightly colored quilts or pillows, they are juxtaposed with plants, dolls or other antiques—and even a person or two.  It all adds to the allure of her cats.

Self-described as a Maine Artist, she invites you to view her gallery, named ‘Catiphilia’, translated as the love of cats.
